In 2015, the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to exploring the therapeutic potential of this emerging non-invasive treatment in a variety of diseases, joined with the Cancer Research Institute by hosting a workshop centered on the rationale for combining focused ultrasound and immunotherapy to treat cancer. A second workshop was organized in 2016.
The two organizations have joined forces with the Melanoma Research Alliance to fund preclinical research studies at the University of Virginia School of Medicine aimed at determining the effectiveness of this treatment approach in melanomas that have spread to the brain.
