Memorial Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Cancer Immunology Research
Today we hope, tomorrow we cure.
On May 16, 2013, the Green and Landesman families of Westport, CT, hosted their annual Keith Landesman Memorial Golf Tournament, Silent Auction, and Dinner to celebrate the life of Dr. Keith Landesman, an avid golfer and cherished community member who lost his life to cancer. The event, which was held at the Birchwood Country Club in Westport, honored the former resident’s dedication to the people of Fairfield County and his courage throughout his battle with cancer.
This year’s event raised nearly $91,000, with all proceeds going to CRI to support cancer immunology research. CRI has named Nicola Gagliani, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University School of Medicine, as the first Dr. Keith Landesman Memorial Fellow, whose research focuses on Th17 cell plasticity to control colorectal cancer development.
“My wife and I are proud to have affiliated with Cancer Research Institute and enthusiastically support immunotherapy as an exciting and most promising field of cancer research. We also selected CRI to receive the proceeds of our fundraiser because of their low overhead, ensuring the monies raised would go mainly to research,” says Richard Landesman, M.D.
Jill O’Donnell-Tormey, Ph.D., CRI chief executive officer and director of scientific affairs, was on hand to speak to the more than 250 attendees about breakthroughs in immunotherapy and CRI’s role in bringing these new treatments to more patients sooner, and to thank the organizers and all in attendance for supporting this important work.
