Dr. Marcel R. M. van den Brink is the head and Alan N. Houghton Chair of the Division of Hematologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he specializes in bone marrow transplants to treat blood cancers such as leukemia. Dr. van den Brink is renowned for developing strategies to help restore patients’ immune systems after bone marrow transplants and revealing new insights on the mechanisms of graft-versus-host disease. For his accomplishments, he has been elected to American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians. His current research also focuses on the how bacteria in the body influence the effectiveness of transplants and immunotherapy strategies, and has been used as the basis for currently ongoing clinical trials. Dr. van den Brink is a member of CRI’s Clinical Leadership Committee.
