Dr. Ira Mellman is the vice president of Cancer Immunology at Genentech. Dr. Mellman is renowned for his discovery of endosomes, the “packages” that cells use to traffic proteins throughout their interiors. He has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences, and remains committed to developing promising immunotherapies and getting them into the clinic to help patients.
In addition to being a member of CRI’s Scientific Advisory Council, Dr. Mellman serves on the Cancer Immunotherapy Consortium (CIC) Steering Committee.
In any one patient, the [cancer immunity] cycle can fail at any one of a number of points. And if we can figure out which is the failure point for any one patient, then we can figure out what it is we have to do for that patient.
