Diane Tuft received a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Connecticut. She has always been interested in medicine and scientific research, hoping one day to go to medical school or to do research in cellular biology. While raising her family, she pursued her artistic interests by taking classes at the International Center of Photography and Pratt Institute. Her interest in science and art led her to meld the two in her representation and vision of nature in her art.
For the past 15 years, Diane has exhibited her work in numerous museums including the Katonah Museum of Art in Katonah, New York, The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, New York, Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut and the International Center of Photography. She has had several solo exhibits in New York galleries including Pace Wildenstein Gallery, Ameringer-Yohe Gallery, and Hollis Taggart Gallery. Diane also exhibited and participated in several science/art symposiums at Kimball Art Center in Park City, Utah; Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut; The Taihe Global Institute in Beijing, China; and The Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik, Iceland. Diane is presently represented by Marlborough Gallery in New York.
Diane has published three monographs: Unseen: Beyond the Visible Spectrum in 2009, Gondwana: Images of an Ancient Land in 2014, and The Arctic Melt: Images of a Disappearing Landscape in 2017.
She is presently in the International Center of Photography, Whitney Museum of American Art, and Parrish Art Museum collections as well as many private collections throughout the United States.
Diane is a board member of the International Center for Photography. She also serves on the Photography Committee of the Whitney Museum of Art. Diane has served as a trustee on The Cancer Research Institute board since June 2010.
She currently resides in New York City with her husband, Tom Tuft.
